Part 3: Refugee law and humanitarian protection
CPD: 2 hours
Size: ?
Price
Price £50.00
Description:

This module will assist you to understand the parts of the 1951 UN Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees that are relevant to asylum claims in the United Kingdom, including the definition of a refugee, issues relating to credibility, future risk, country information, persecution, Convention reasons, protection, cessation clauses and exclusion clauses. The course also includes extensive reference to the EC Qualification Directive defining refugee status and includes material on the problems that arise in making out claims for refugee status and on potential strategies for addressing those problems.
The module is at intermediate to advanced level. It is a comprehensive guide to the law of refugee status but is designed to be accessible to practitioners with little prior knowledge of the Convention. The course includes material that would be of interest to an advanced level practitioner, for example on case preparation strategy, the Qualification Directive and the case law on difficult concepts arising from the Convention.
At the end of the course you should be familiar with the terms of the definition clauses, cessation clauses and exclusion clauses of the Refugee Convention
and be familiar with the common difficulties facing refugees in establishing their claims and with strategies for overcoming those difficulties.

This module states the law as at summer 2010, when the immigration manual on which the course is based was last updated. Immigration law can change rapidly, so the materials may now not reflect the latest position in places
